Derek DeBruyn is one of the newest team members to join the Training & Consulting Team at OSG. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce, and he brings with him a variety of skills and experiences gained from work in a variety of industries – including almost a decade as a volunteer firefighter! His varied work experience and passion for health and safety led to him becoming an internal trainer and a management co-chair of his previous company’s JHSC. It was during this period that Derek learned to apply the skills and knowledge gained through his experiences to effective workplace training. Derek’s journey and experiences have led him to wanting to help others make their workplaces safer. Derek’s passion is helping people learn to work safely, and his training specialties include mobile elevated work platforms and lift trucks.
Derek’s training style is described as relaxed and engaging. His vast knowledge about lifting devices coupled with his patient demeanour makes Derek very approachable. He enjoys meeting learners, sharing experiences, and learning about different workplaces and practices. When Derek isn’t training for OSG, he enjoys playing hockey and being a league administrator. Derek coached minor hockey for 18 seasons, and continues to enjoy finding different ways of giving back to his community. He is a family man, and enjoys nothing more than spending time with his family, including coaching and spectating the many activities and sports that his children participate in.
Do everything you do safely, so that everyone goes home to their families at the end of the day.
