Course Summary

Maintain your Standard First Aid Certification by completing this 1-day Recertification course.

To be eligible for recertification, you must have a Standard First Aid certificate from the Red Cross that has not expired. This course will help you maintain the first aid knowledge and skills you developed during your initial training. You will be provided with a recertification certificate that is valid for 3 years. A Recertification course can only be taken once before needing retake Standard First Aid.

This course meets WSIB first aid requirements for a workplace with 6 or more employees per shift.

Renew your skills and knowledge so that during times of need, you’re ready to respond. Standard First Aid Recertification covers:

  • Preparing to respond to emergencies
  • The Check, Call, Care strategy for responding to emergencies
  • Preforming CPR
  • AED Operation (Automatic External Defibrillator)

 

Standard First Aid Recertification training covers best practices including:

  • Airway emergencies
  • Breathing and Circulation emergencies
  • Respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Head and spine injuries
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Sudden Medical Emergencies
  • Environmental Emergencies
  • Wound care
  • Poisons (including opioids)

For workplaces that are at risk of a worker opioid overdose and therefore required to have naloxone kits - this course meets training requirements in the Occupational Health & Safety Act section 25.2 (1) and 25.2 (3). The course includes training to recognize an opioid overdose, to administer naloxone and to acquaint the worker with any hazards related to the administration of naloxone.
 

Available Formats

Standard First Aid Recertification is currently available as a private 1-day in-person course, conveniently delivered at your workplace.
 

Evaluation

Meet the following requirements to receive Canadian Red Cross Standard First Aid Recertification:

  • 100% attendance and participation
  • Ability to successfully demonstrate skills and critical steps
  • Minimum passing grade of 75% for written knowledge evaluation

 

Additional Requirements

Please ensure your training room provides 1.4m2 (15 sq. feet) of clear floor space is required per participant for hands-on skill practice.

Participation in First Aid training can be physically demanding and requires prolonged kneeling, bending and working on the floor. Comfortable clothing that allows for freedom of movement is recommended.

Some instructional content for First Aid Training involves depictions of real-life emergency scenarios, which may cause emotional upset.

How do I know if I’m eligible for Standard First Aid Recertification?

To be eligible for Standard First Aid Recertification, you need to have:

  • A Standard First Aid Certificate from the Red Cross
    • Per the WSIB, we can recertify you if you originally took a Red Cross course to become certified
  • Your certificate must not be expired. If it’s expired, you will need to take the full 2-day Standard First Aid course to become certified

Does this training meet WSIB First Aid training requirements?

Yes, as a Red Cross Training Partner, OSG’s first aid training meets the WISB First Aid training requirements.

How long does recertification last?

Your certificate is valid for 3 years. A Recertification course can only be taken once before needing retake Standard First Aid.
