Course Summary

Respirators are designed to provide protection when other controls are not feasible, in emergency situations, or to supplement other engineering or administrative controls. They are designed to reduce or minimize exposure to, or contact with chemical or biological hazards.

The Respirator Awareness course is designed to provide learners with information and skills for the proper selection, use, and care of respirators.  This course provides guidance for the administration of an effective workplace respiratory protection program and is consistent with the requirements of the CSA Z94.4 Standard – Selection, Use, and Care of Respirators.

Our course provides a new or seasoned workplace instructor with the knowledge and tools to effectively deliver this course in the workplace.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain specific roles and responsibilities with respect to respiratory protection
  • Discuss the process of hazard assessment
  • Explain how to select the appropriate respirator
  • Discuss different types of respirators
  • Discuss different fit testing methods (theory)
  • Explain proper care and maintenance
