Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to complete Part 2 after taking Part 1?

After completing Part 1, learners have 12 months to complete Part 2. We recommend completing Part 2 within 1-2 months. You can even complete Part 2 immediately after completing Part 1 and be certified in as little as four days.

What happens if I fail to complete Part 2 within the timeframe?

If you did not complete your JHSC Part 2 Certification within the required 12-month timeline, you cannot become a certified member under OHSA. This means you will not be able to fulfill your role as a certified JHSC member, and your workplace may not be fully compliant with safety regulations.

To become a certified member, you must retake Part 1 training before you can re-enrol for Part 2. It’s important to keep track of your certification and required timeframes to maintain compliance and your ability to contribute effectively.

You can easily access your training records through the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development Certification Management System.

How long does Part 2 training last?

After completing Part 2, you are a certified JHSC member. Certified members are required to complete JHSC Refresher Training every 3 years to maintain certification.

What are the prerequisites for taking this course?

Learners must complete JHSC Part 1 Training within the required 12 months before starting Part 2. You will not be able to enrol in Part 2 if you have exceeded the 12 months’ timeframe and will need to retake Part 1 to become certified.

I completed JHSC Part 1 with a different provider—can I take Part 2 with OSG?

Yes, definitely! You can complete your JHSC Part 2 Training with OSG without any issues.

However, please note that we do not have access to your training records from your previous provider. You will need to retrieve proof of completion for JHSC Part 1 and confirm that you are within the required timeframe to complete Part 2 within 12 months of completing Part 1. You can access your records through the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development Certification Management System.

Is OSG’s JHSC Part 2 Training approved by the MOL?

Yes, OSG’s Joint Health and Safety Committee Certification Part 2 Training is CPO-Approved.

This means that our course has been reviewed and certified by the Chief Prevention Officer (CPO), under the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. As a CPO-Approved course, OSG’s JHSC Part 2 Training meets the specific standards and requirements set by the Ontario government for high-quality, effective training that complies with health and safety regulations.

Can I take JHSC Part 2 without an instructor?

No, the Ministry of Labour, Immigrant, Training and Skills Development of Ontario does not allow CPO-Approved providers of JHSC to deliver Part 2 training without an instructor.

Is there a test for JHSC Part 2?

No, there is no test to pass JHSC Part 2. There is an evaluation where learners demonstrate their knowledge about the topics discussed during the course. Participation is required to complete certification.

Can multiple attendees use the same computer for virtual learning?

No, learners cannot share the same device during virtual training. Each participant will need their own computer during the course to participate in group discussions and case studies. To receive JHSC certification, you must complete the course as an individual.

What technology do I need for the virtual class?

You do not need to download additional software to join a virtual class. Simply open your web browser and you’re ready to learn.

For the best experience, we recommend participants use:

  • A laptop or desktop with the Chrome browser. Cellphones and tablets and are not supported at this time
  • Internet with network speeds that are at least 5 Mbps Up / 2 Mbps Down
  • Built-in or external speakers or headphones to hear the facilitator
  • Webcams and microphones are encouraged to participate in classroom activities

I enrolled others in training—how will they receive their course details?

The participants that you registered will receive an email that includes instructions for joining the virtual classroom at least one day prior to the course start date.

If they did not receive a link, please contact the client success team at 1-800-815-9980 or email info@osg.ca. Our operating hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm EST.

How do I access my training records for JHSC?

After you have completed your JHSC Part 2 Certification, OSG will send your training records to the MOL on your behalf. In 6-8 weeks you will receive an email from the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training, and Skills Development with instructions on how to access the Prevention Certification Management System portal where your certificate is located.
