Respirator Fit Testing Train-the-Trainer Course

A Respirator Fit Test Train-the-Trainer course prepares safety professionals to become certified in-house trainers within their organizations. Rather than relying on an external training provider, companies can build their own Respirator Fit Testing training capability internally.

Our Respirator Fit Test Train-the-Trainer course covers hazard assessments, respirator selection, fit-testing methods, and proper maintenance, in line with CSA Z94.4 standards. Upon completion, participants receive a respirator Fit Test Trainer certification and immediate access to our Instructor Portal with everything they need to start training their team right away.

Your Respirator Fit Test Train-the-Trainer certification is valid for 3 years. Renewing regularly keeps your training aligned with current best practices, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.

This course is a great fit for safety professionals who deliver respirator fit testing training regularly or want to build that capability in-house.

Participants will gain familiarity with the following respirator types:

• Filtering facepieces, such as N95 and KN95 masks
• Half-face respirators
• Full-face respirators
• Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBAs)

Yes — both fit testing methods are covered in this course. Qualitative fit testing relies on an individual’s sense of smell or taste to identify leaks, while quantitative fit testing uses a particle counting machine for a more precise measurement. You’ll walk away with a solid understanding of both methods and when to apply them.

This course covers the full evaluation process, so you’ll be equipped to conduct fit tests on employees within your organization. You’ll understand the steps involved, what to look for, and how to document and apply the results.

Before enrolling in our Respirator Fit Test Train the Trainer course, you will need to:

• Complete Tools and Techniques for Adult Learning
• Hold a certificate of Respirator Protection competency from a recognized training provider
• Working knowledge of Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations is also an asset

Public classes run on a set schedule and are open to participants from different organizations. It’s a flexible option for individuals or smaller teams who want to get certified without committing to a private session.

Private classes are held exclusively for your team, either online or at a location of your choosing. It’s ideal for organizations certifying multiple trainers at once.

This is a one-day course running from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

No additional software is required. Simply open your web browser, and you’re ready to go. For the best experience, we recommend:

• A laptop or desktop using the Chrome browser — cellphones and tablets (including iPads) are not currently supported
• A reliable internet connection
• Built-in or external speakers or headphones to hear the facilitator
• A webcam and microphone are encouraged for classroom activities

Yes, once certified, you can train an unlimited number of employees at your organization. Just ensure your Respirator Fit Test Train-the-Trainer certification remains active, as it expires every three years.

Each enrollment covers one individual and cannot be shared. If several people at your organization need to complete the course, additional seats will be required.

No, this course and its materials cannot be resold. If you need to return any items, most new, unopened items can be returned to OSG within 30 days of delivery. Review our terms for Train-the-Trainer Kits or contact us for more information.
