Operator competency starts with good training, and good training starts with a confident, knowledgeable instructor. When your in-house trainer understands how to teach, not just operate, your team gets more out of every session.
Our Forklift Instructor training is taught by industry experts and prepares your team’s trainer to confidently cover hazard identification, pre-use inspections, and safe operating principles. As part of your Forklift Trainer certification, the course is designed in accordance with the CSA B335-15 Safety Standard for Lift Trucks, so your in-house training program stays aligned with current requirements.

Built on real adult learning principles

Frequently asked questions
What is a Forklift Train-the-Trainer course?
A Forklift Train-the-Trainer course prepares experienced forklift operators and supervisors to become certified in-house trainers within their organization. Instead of relying on an external training provider, companies can build their own Forklift Instructor training capability internally.
Our Forklift Train-the-Trainer course covers hazard identification, pre-operational inspections, stability principles, and safe operating techniques in line with CSA B335-15 standards. Upon completion, participants receive a Train-the-Trainer Forklift certification and immediate access to our instructor portal with everything they need to start training their team right away.
How long is the Train-the-Trainer Forklift certification valid for?
OSG’s Train-the-Trainer Forklift certification is valid for three years. Renewing every three years ensures your training stays current with the latest best practices and safety standards.
Who is this course for?
This course is ideal for organizations looking to manage forklift training in-house. By certifying an experienced operator or supervisor as an in-house trainer, companies can train staff on demand, reduce downtime, and keep their workforce consistently compliant.
What’s the difference between Train-the-Trainer and individual Forklift certification?
Individual Forklift certification trains and certifies a single operator to operate a lift truck/forklift safely. Forklift Train-the-Trainer goes a step further; it certifies the operator to train and certify other operators on your team.
If you only need to certify one or two operators, individual certification may be the simpler option. If you’re looking to build ongoing, in-house training capacity for your team, Train-the-Trainer gives you that flexibility. OSG offers both options, so you can choose the one that best fits how your organization operates.
What are the prerequisites for Forklift Trainer certification?
Before enrolling in our Forklift Train-the-Trainer course, you will need to:
- Complete Tools and Techniques for Adult Learning
- Understand Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, including Ont. Reg. 851 (Industrial Establishments, s. 51(2)) and Ont. Reg. 213/91 (Construction Projects, s. 96(1))
- Have at least 100 hours of forklift operating experience or hold a certificate of competency from a recognized training provider
Is this certification recognized outside Ontario?
No, our Train-the-Trainer certification is not transferable to other provinces. Each province has its own health and safety standards and regulations, so training completed under Ontario’s requirements does not automatically apply elsewhere.
What is the difference between the delivery formats?
Public – Online classes run on a set schedule and are held virtually alongside participants from other organizations. This is a flexible option if you only need to certify one instructor.
Private – In-person and Private – Online classes are held exclusively for your team, either at a location of your choosing or virtually. This is ideal for organizations looking to certify multiple trainers at once without sharing the session with others.
How long is the Forklift Train-the-Trainer course?
This is a one-day course running from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Private options can be arranged at other times.
What technology do I need for the virtual class?
No additional software is required; simply open your web browser, and you’re ready to go.
For the best experience, we recommend:
- A laptop or desktop using the Chrome browser (cellphones and tablets, including iPads, are not currently supported)
- A reliable internet connection

How does Forklift Instructor training benefit my company?
With our Forklift Train-the-Trainer course, your in-house trainer can deliver consistent, compliant training to your team throughout the certification period, typically 3 years. Your trainer can also tailor training to your specific workplace, equipment, and operating conditions.
For organizations that train frequently or experience high staff turnover, having a certified in-house trainer means training happens on your schedule, without waiting on outside availability.
I enrolled others in training. How will they get their course details?
Each participant you registered will receive an email with instructions on how to join the virtual classroom at least one day before the course start date.
If they don’t receive their link, please reach out to our Client Success team at 1-800-815-9980 or info@osg.ca. We’re available Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm EST.
Can I train an unlimited number of employees once certified?
Yes! Once certified, you can train an unlimited number of employees at your organization. Just ensure your Train-the-Trainer Forklift certification remains active with OSG, as it expires every three years.
What happens if my certified trainer leaves the company?
The Train-the-Trainer Forklift certification is not transferable to another instructor. If your certified trainer leaves your organization, you’ll need to enroll a new employee in the Forklift Train-the-Trainer course to continue training in-house.
How many people can use this course? Can I share it with several employees at once?
Each enrollment covers one individual and cannot be shared with others. If multiple people at your organization need to complete the course, additional seats will be required.
Can I resell these trainings?
No, this course and its items cannot be resold. If you need to return your course items, most new, unopened items can be returned to OSG within 30 days of delivery. You can learn more by reviewing our terms for Train-the-Trainer Kits. Please contact us for more information.
